Central Waste Water Treatment Plant Tertiary Filter Building

December 2023

This state-of-the-art pre-engineered metal building, represents DSB’s 2nd project on the CWWTP campus in collaboration with Brasfield & Gorrie. The building’s design incorporates innovative features, such as an insulated metal panel roof, and pays homage to the past with its galvanized steel to match existing structures. This not only ensures a uniform look but also offers protection against the potentially caustic environment of a wastewater facility.

The new building stands over a facility from the 1970s, previously used for the tertiary step in the wastewater treatment/filtration process. This advanced filtration step is crucial – removing nutrients, suspended solids, and organic materials from wastewater, ensuring its safe discharge into the environment. The old facility underwent partial demolition. Brasfield & Gorrie ingeniously used large Geofoam blocks and stone to fill the existing filtration pits, allowing for a new concrete slab to be poured. This transformation means the space can serve as a warehouse or storage facility in the future.
